We had to replace our microwave because it was arcing. Our microwave had served us well for many years, especially considering it was a hand-me down from a friend who had remodeled her kitchen years back. Since we recently had a relatively new toaster oven fail on us, we looked for a microwave that will hopefully last us many years as durability is one of the most critical green aspects for an appliance. What I did not expect to get with the microwave was a green cleaning tip.
Natural Cleaning Tip from our new Microwave Manual |
Two Natural Ways to Remove Cooking Odors and Clean Your Microwave:
- Combine 1 to 1 1/2 cups water with the juice and peel of one lemon in a 2 quart microwave safe bowl (we recommend glass). Microwave on high for 5 minutes. After the water stops boiling, wipe the interior of the oven with a cloth.
or - Combine several whole cloves, 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1 cup of water. Microwave on high for 5 minutes. After the water stops boiling, wipe the interior of the oven with a cloth.
Happy Green Cleaning!

p.s. It was my better half that was reading the manual and found this tip along with a warning about using recycled paper towels & napkins in the microwave.
